The place where nature and memory live side by side.Care for what is here. Celebrate what came before. Heritage is not only behind us. It shapes how we care for today.
Formal planning proposals to build a further 1100 homes in Tockwith are to be submitted to the North Yorkshire Council – but not yet.
The proposed development would be located on the former Marston Moor airfield, adjoining the existing village boundary. Much of the site is currently used as productive agricultural land.
A development of this scale would approximately double the size of Tockwith, with significant implications for local infrastructure, public services, traffic, the environment and the character of the village.
We have formed Sustainable Tockwith to oppose the plan when it is submitted.
Please join us to help stop this from happening and help us to preserve our village.
We are a group of residents from Tockwith who are concerned about the proposed development. If approved, we believe it will irreparably harm the rural character of our village and have negative environmental, social, and economic impacts.
Our aim is: To ensure that the unique physical character of Tockwith is protected and developed for the benefit of the community, both now and for future generations.
Sustainable Tockwith is coordinated by a volunteer Steering Group, supported by working groups and individual volunteers. The Steering Group will organise and support public meetings for the purpose of keeping residents and local stakeholders engaged and informed.
With residents’ approval, the Steering Group will set the overall direction and strategy for our initiatives. It will coordinate our response to planning applications with the help of working groups and individuals who will focus on specific topics such as education, transport, the environment, and community infrastructure.
We welcome all who share our commitment to a thriving, well-planned future for Tockwith.
